Focus on the Family Co-Sponsors National Foster Care Prayer Vigil with Show Hope and Hope for Orphans

Colorado Springs, CO. –Focus on the Family, along with Show Hope and Hope for Orphans, is sponsoring a national prayer vigil to raise awareness for National Foster Care Month, as well as the more than 400,000 children in the U.S. foster care system. About 100,000 of these children are awaiting adoption.

During the week of May 19-26, churches, small groups and families are encouraged to pray specifically for children in foster care, who face many challenges such as aging out of foster care, feeling abandoned and sibling separation. It is also a time to pray for the foster families, CASA volunteers and caseworkers who tirelessly support these children.

Participants can sign up at and receive a free prayer guide download, register the location of their prayer vigil and see where other vigils are happening around the nation.

"Scripture is clear about the command to the church to care for orphans," said Kelly Rosati, who adopted her four children from foster care and serves as vice president of Community Outreach at Focus on the Family. "The prayer events don’t have to be big and fancy. We are simply asking for people to remember these children and the men and women who are helping them, in their prayers."

This national prayer vigil is just one of the things the three sponsoring organizations do to help bring awareness to the daily plight of children in foster care and orphans around the world. Focus on the Family’s main outreach for children awaiting adoption out of the U.S. foster care system is its Wait No More conference. Since 2008, Wait No More has helped more than 2,300 families initiate the process of adoption from foster care. The next event will be held in Dallas, TX on June 1.

Show Hope is an active advocate for orphans. Not only does the group work to educate the church on the plight of the orphan, but it also helps remove financial barriers by providing grants for adoptive families and provides live-saving medical care for orphans with special needs.

Hope for Orphans works to further adoption education in churches by helping the body of Christ understand its role in caring for orphans. Hope for Orphans also provides biblically-based resources to help church leaders develop orphan ministries in their churches, and partners with like-minded organizations to respond to God’s mandate to care for the orphan.

About Show Hope

Show Hope is a ministry that enables individuals and communities to change the world for orphans by not only addressing a child’s need for food, shelter, care, and spiritual nourishment, but by also addressing the root issue for an orphan: the lack of a family.

About Hope for Orphans

Hope for Orphans serves churches with a heart for orphans in three ways. We educate Christians about God's heart for orphans and encourage them to practice what God calls in James, chapter one, "pure and undefiled religion" -- caring for orphans in their distress. We provide simple, practical, and biblically-based resources that help local church lay leaders launch and develop orphans ministries in their churches. We build strategic relationships with key organizations that we share with local churches as they respond to God's mandate to care for the orphan.
