Colorado Springs, Colo. – Focus on the Family’s Wait No More conference, which has already helped more than 1,000 families across the nation start the adoption process, is coming to Denver on Sept. 18.
Wait No More brings state and local child welfare officials, child placement agencies, churches, and ministries together to educate interested families about adoption from foster care. The conference has proven so effective that the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute described Wait No More as a national best practice in foster care adoption recruitment earlier this year.
Families who attend Wait No More learn about the tens of thousands of legal orphans across the U.S. who are awaiting adoption. They hear first-hand from adoptive moms and dads who honestly share the joys, challenges and rewards of opening up their homes to a child. Attendees also hear stories from those who were once in foster care.
Many of the families who attend Wait No More conferences are inspired to start the adoption process. Wait No More’s two previous Colorado events have already helped reduce the number of waiting children in Colorado foster care from more than 800 to 365.
With more than 3,000 churches across Colorado to help provide homes for these remaining 365 children, Kelly Rosati, vice president for Community Outreach at Focus on the Family, thinks it’s possible to make Colorado the first state with no more children in foster care awaiting adoption.
"As Christians, we believe that God adopted us and made us His children," Rosati explains. "That’s why we think that churches should be first in line to help all of these precious kids find homes. After all, what could be more beautiful than giving the gift of family to a waiting child?"
The Wait No More conference is scheduled from 1-5 p.m at Grace Chapel in Englewood. Although no admission costs are involved, pre-registration is strongly preferred to help plan for conference-related materials.
